Afghan police foil major drug trafficking attempts

(MENAFN) Afghan counter-narcotics police have stopped two major drug trafficking attempts, arresting three suspected smugglers in Takhar and Zabul provinces, the Ministry of Interior Affairs said Wednesday.

Acting on intelligence, forces conducted operations near Taluqan city in Takhar and Shajoy district in Zabul, seizing 249 kg of opium. The detainees are under preliminary investigation and will be handed to judicial authorities.

Earlier, police in western Herat province arrested 16 suspected traffickers and confiscated 872 kg of narcotics.
